About Volunteering
Indian Creek Hatchery in Gold Beach, Curry County, Oregon, is a cornerstone of community involvement through its exclusively volunteer-operated model. Under the motto "Volunteers Raising Salmon," we have seen a remarkable increase in community engagement, attracting individuals who are passionate about the well being of our native salmon population and the ecological balance of our precious waterways.
The commitment of our volunteers not only breathes life into our initiatives but also plays a crucial role in the sustainability of both our fishing industry and the habitats that support it. As Curry Anadromous Fishermen we work in collaboration with organizations such as the Oregon Department of Wildlife, aiming to enhance the health and vitality of the region's natural resources. This partnership underscores our collective commitment to environmental stewardship, ensuring that our waterways remain thriving ecosystems.
Our volunteers engage in various essential activities, from habitat restoration to educational outreach, all of which contribute significantly to the ongoing success of the Indian Creek Hatchery. Each hour of volunteer work is foundational for our operations and aids in securing essential state funding. This support enables us to continue our vital work, including the annual promotion of sustainable populations, such as the Fall Chinook Salmon in the Rogue River, as highlighted by the ODFW STEP program statistics.
The richness of our work at Indian Creek Hatchery depends upon the continued enthusiasm and expertise of our community members. We encourage everyone to keep volunteering, sharing their insights, and participating in our projects. Together, we can ensure that Indian Creek Hatchery remains an invaluable asset to our community, fostering healthy fish populations and preserving the ecological integrity of our waterways for generations to come. Your involvement is vital to our mission and greatly appreciated as we strive to maintain a thriving environment for both salmon and the community. .
