This important event is scheduled to take place throughout the entire month of June, 2025.
At Indian Creek Hatchery, the dedicated team at Curry Anadromous Fishermen (CAF) orchestrates a significant and impactful volunteer event that represents a crucial step forward for the hatchery's mission. During this month-long initiative, CAF meticulously coordinates the process to ensure that all salmon smolts have their adipose fin clipped, a procedure necessary for tracking and research. In total, approximately 28,000 smolts will be carefully inserted with a coded wire tag, enabling valuable data collection for various research purposes.
The primary goal is to promote and ensure the gathering of essential data that underscores the hatchery's ongoing efforts while providing the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) with the necessary steps to effectively monitor fish counts for the Rogue River Fall Chinook Salmon return. Such efforts are instrumental in assisting fishermen in distinguishing between wild and hatchery fish, as well as facilitating the scanning process for the coded wire tags during seining and snout collection activities.
